Bang A Drum
![]() The bottom drum was a gift from Donna, the drum sitting on top, was a gift from Opie and the frame drum is something I found in Stockholm, Sweeden.
These rattles were handmade by my friend Opie O'Brien from Burnt Offerings. They are made from peyote gourds. He uses a technique he calls Pyrographics to burn designs into the gourd. Then he hand paints them with symbols and icons. He also attaches crystals shells and feathers. His wife Linda, is a Reki master and a Rune reader.
A Djembe made by Cosmic Percussion. It's an inexpensive drum, but sounds great. Crisp, attention-getting highs, and deep, profound lows. The perfect all-around hand drum. I'd like to get my hands on the real version of this type of drum. I'd also like a Doumbek and some Tabalas. Soon.
This is the set-up I use when playing with a band. The top Bongos are made by World Beat. They were another gift from Donna. Below those are Latin Percussion Conga Juniors, and a Cosmic Percussion Djembe on the stand below them. With this set up, I can pretty much handle any type of music.
I've had these Maraccas since I was 10 years old. They were given to me by my Grandmother, my Mom's, Mom. Maunee. She was amazing. The Rattles are from Antiqua. Made from gourds. Hand painted. Sound great. I won't take them out of the studio for fear of losing them.
Various little noise-makers including RhythmTech tamborines and shaker. LP Jam Block and a cow bell hand-made by Louis Beato, the drummer I played with while I played guitar in Carnivore. The Kalimba (thumb-piano) was a gift from my Mother.
Twenty dollars. Chelsea street fair. Mini Djembe. Sounds GREAT. |
